Her tech moved away. She's got a thing on Saturday. Google is about to hand her to 1 of maybe 4 businesses, and this page walks you through becoming 1 of them. It's free, it takes about 40 minutes, and we go screen by screen so there's no step where you get lost.
Quick honesty before anything. I do marketing for Weblingo, and setting this up for beauty businesses is literally what we get paid for. I'm giving you the whole thing anyway, because most people save pages like this and never do it, and the girls who do it themselves were never going to pay anyone for it. So everyone wins except my boss.
When she googles nails near me, Google puts a little map at the top with about 3 businesses under it. That map is where the whole choice happens.
She taps into a couple. Checks the stars. Looks at some photos. Messages the ones that look decent, puts her phone down, and goes with whoever answers first. The whole thing takes her about 4 minutes, and she'll usually stay with whoever she lands on for years.
The girls on that map are not the best techs in your town. I look at these listings all day, and some of the best work I've ever seen belongs to girls who are completely invisible on this page. The girls on the map filled out a form 1 boring afternoon. Nothing else separates you from them.
So let's fill out the form.
The girls on that map are not the best techs in your town.
Go to google.com/business and sign in with the Gmail you actually check, because your reviews and booking notifications will land in that inbox. Not the dead one.
Business name: your actual business name. Some girls try "Best Nails Near Me [Town]" thinking it helps them rank. Google takes those down, and honestly, clients find them weird too. If your business is called Nails by Dani, you type Nails by Dani.
Early on, Google asks what type of business you are. This 1 screen gets more beauty listings taken down than anything else I see, and nobody warns you about it.
You do nails on a human being who sits in front of you, so you pick in-person. Girls pick "online" because they book through Instagram and it feels right. Then months later, Google quietly decides they look like a fake business and pulls the listing. You pick in-person, home studio included.
I know this is exactly where you closed the tab last time, because you're not putting your home address on the internet for strangers. Good news: you don't have to. There's a setting.
You give Google the address once, so it trusts that you're real. Then you hide it and show a service area instead. Clients see your part of town and the areas you cover, up to 20 of them. They never see your street or your door.
You're not putting your home address on the internet for strangers.
Verification changed in July 2026 and it's the step where I lose people, so stay with me. Google used to mail you a postcard with a code. That's dead. Now they ask for a short video, and every girl who hits this screen assumes it's some kind of production.
It's not. You film live on your phone, no editing: walk from something that proves where you are, your street sign, the corner store, into your setup, and show your stuff. Your table, your lamp, your polish wall, your kit.
Nobody sees this video except Google's verification system. It's not content. It doesn't need to be cute. Film it in whatever you're wearing, and it usually clears within a few days.
There's 1 rule for the description box: write the words a client would actually google. Google matches your listing to searches using what you wrote, so every word is either something she'd type or it's wasted.
Say your services by name. Say your town. Say how you work. That's a description Google can hand to a girl searching "gel-x [your town]" at 11pm on a Tuesday.
"A luxury nail experience where beauty meets self-care ✨"
Gel-X, builder gel, nail art and lash fills in [your town]. Home studio, evenings and Saturdays.
List every service with a price. I know some of you hide prices on purpose, and we can argue about that another day, but on Google it's simple: she's comparing 4 tabs in bed, and the listings that answer her questions get picked. Price is her first question.
Then your hours, your real ones. If you work evenings and Sundays, say so, because "open now" at 8pm on a Sunday is how you catch every girl with a broken nail and an event tomorrow.
15-20 photos of work you actually did, on real clients, from the last few months. Different skin tones, different shapes. Phone camera is fine. A little janky is fine. Nobody expects studio lighting from a nail listing, they expect proof.
Because the girl comparing you is asking exactly 1 question: "will my nails look good if I go here?" Your actual work answers it. Saved inspo shots answer nothing, and girls can smell a saved photo from across the app.
And before you leave this screen, fill in the booking link. Google removed its own chat feature back in 2024, so this link is the only way she books straight from the listing. Booksy, Fresha, your form, even your Instagram. Whatever you use, put it in.
Girls can smell a saved photo from across the app.
A brand new listing starts at the bottom of the pile and earns its way up over weeks, not days. Anyone who promises you the top of the map by the weekend is selling you something.
What actually moves you up is boring. Reviews coming in steadily. You replying to them. Fresh photos. A listing that looks alive. So tonight, text your last 5 clients and ask for a review. By name, personally, 1 line each.
Around 83% of people leave a review when they're personally asked, and almost nobody asks. Then make it a habit: every happy client gets 1 text, the same night. The girl with 30 recent reviews beats the girl with 4 old ones in every search in town, and she keeps beating her every month after.
Anyone who promises you the top of the map by the weekend is selling you something.
And you're done. 1 form, 1 slightly awkward video, some photos of your real work, and a review habit that takes a text a day. About 40 minutes once, and then it works every night at 11pm while you're asleep, catching the girls your Instagram never reaches.
So you don't have to remember any of this while you're doing it: I put every step into a free 5-minute training and a printable checklist. You do the setup with your phone in 1 hand and the checklist in the other.
Every step from this page, in order. The link asks for your email and sends you both.
